Golf Swings

After drawing gestures from a model, the drafts were to be used as keys.
I inbetweened two keys, refined some of the gestures, and tossed two gestures
that skated just way too much. the first result was this:

I then referenced the keys and drafted a new swing.

First Pendulum

I actually drafted the pendulum three times before settling on the final one.
This is pendulum number two.

Incremental #1

I've done a lot of gesture drawing in the past, so it was really nice to get back out and do it after a long summer. I misunderstood the concept and ended up drawing the first four increments on top of each other.
The gestures are hit and miss, but the proportions are pretty consistently bad.

KCAI ANIM: Incremental drawings

This incremental entry was done from a frame by frame study of a parkour film. The figure is leaping between two buildings, and the way he opens his frame is really amazing.

KCAI ANIM: Metamorphosis

Untitled from Michael Nanna on Vimeo.
I can honestly say i enjoyed the entire process of creating this metamorphosis. While it is obvious that it needs many many more frames, I feel like I gained a decent amount of experience with my overlapping action.

I really tried to test it by keeping the bubbles on a different rhythm than everything else, which seemed to have worked, but the trajectory of the last bubble is a bit odd. The most valuable thing I learned is that when you have created a character that is collectively considered to be adorable, blow it up.

KCAI ANIM: Hunting and Gathering Project, Part 1

This image was drafted on the front lawn of the Jannes library. I spent many great afternoons here in the past spring with someone very special to me. It is also a beautiful arboretum.

The Cameo is the name of my family's land in the Catskill Mountains in New York. There are thirteen cottages on the property, and it is where we get together for our annual family reunions. I spent many wonderful summers here all throughout my life.
